Bottled Emotion
By Julia Bruk

Abstract

One of the best things about art is that it is an individual, subjective experience. Each person is in their own world when they approach an artwork. What if you can breach this world? Imagine feeling what others feel when they look at art.
This installation is a piece of systems art, which collects and averages magnetic brain activity using Magnetoencephalography (MEG) -a type of brain imagining device. The brain activity is first induced by different collections of specifically picked art pieces hoping to invoke memories and emotions. After collecting a person’s magnetic fingerprint during their viewing, a program stores it within eight different categories (Age/Sex) and brings them back out for you to experience. Inverting the MEG magnetic fields, you will be able to feel the raw brain activity a female child felt, or a male senior, while looking at the same art you just looked at.
